Burning of The ODM Office in Kajiado

An image of the burnt ODM Office in Kajiado County.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) condemns in the strongest terms possible the burning down of the party ‘s Kajiado County office yesterday. This has caused the Party serious losses in terms of destruction of property and vital documents including data.

We are convinced beyond doubt that this is the doing of our political opponents who are yet to come to terms with their rejection by the Maasai community which has unanimously showed support for the ODM Party Leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga ‘s bid to be Kenya’s 5th President.

The strong momentum for change occasioned by the NASA coalition and the recent defections into our Party by prominent politicians from Kajiado County could be major contributors to barbaric and archaic acts of political immaturity by our opponents.

It will be recalled that two years ago, our opponents tried in vain to take over the office, which is strategically located in the heart of Kajiado town by defacing it. Our Party officials and members thwarted the attempt.
Such acts of desperation are undemocratic, barbaric and go against the basic tenets of good political mannerism.

The ODM urges the Inspector General and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch investigations into the incident and bring the culprits and perpetrators to justice .

As a Nation, we value institutions and we must not accept perpetrators of violence to be used to destroy the gains we have made in making political parties strong institutions for prosperity.

While the perpetrators stand condemned, we appeal to our members to exercise maximum restraint. This kind of intimidation and power flexing is outraged and should be discouraged by peace loving Kenyans.
