Senegal vs Tunisia: Team News, Head To Head, Match Preview

The glamour of being in the limelight will be up for grabs when the Top 2 ranked nations on the Africa continent lock horns in the AFCON semi-final. Senegal faces Tunisia with just a spot available to compete in the biggest football match on the African continent, the Africa Cup of Nations Final.

Senegal, who’re ranked first on the continent are the favorites on paper, seeing off Benin 1-0 in the quarter final which was the first defeat The Squirrels of Benin suffered in the competition to end their campaign. Tunisia also inflicted the first defeat of Madagascar in the competition, thrashing the Barea 3-0, to end their fairy-tale journey.



The Lions of Teranga already have their first choice goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy ruled out of the competition, whilst head coach of the side Aliou Cisse confirmed Mbaye Niang, who suffered an injury against Benin, returned to training. This means Aliou Cisse has all the 22 players in camp fit, and could pick his starting team from the 22 in camp.



Alain Giresse, head coach of Tunisia, also has everyone fit in
camp, and is likely to maintain the same team who got Tunisia their first win
in the competition.


Both sides have faced off 20 times, with Tunisia winning 9
games whilst Senegal has 7 wins from the tie. The remaining 4 games however
ended in stalemate. Their most recent meeting, in the Group stages of AFCON
2017, where Senegal triumphed 2-0. Tunisia however defeated Senegal 1-0 in the
quarter final of the 2004 AFCON, which they eventually won.

Senegal last played in the semi-final of the AFCON in 2006,
losing by 2-1 to hosts Egypt, whilst Tunisia also played in the semis in 2004,
beating Nigeria on penalties.

The game will be played at 4:00 PM GMT at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo. The game will be officiated by Ethiopian referee Bamlak Tessema.
